Which UK Airports Have the Cheapest Parking? We Compared 35 Airports

We compared the cost of two weeks’ parking at 35 UK airports to find out which have the cheapest — and most expensive — airport parking.

Using the same travel dates for every airport, we found prices ranging from £42 to £211, with significant differences between airports and between park & ride, terminal parking, meet & greet and hotel-and-parking packages.

Airport parking in the UK is notoriously expensive.  In many locations, the airport itself is the only car park operator and this lack of competition, combined with recent price inflation seemingly not seen in many other areas of the UK economy (and that is saying something) means a serious extra cost to your holiday.

Our analysis

For the 2 weeks we looked at, London City has the most expensive airport parking in the UK – a whopping £210.50 – although this is perhaps unsurprising given its location.

More of a shock for me were Bournemouth and Bristol who both also topped the £200 mark.

Excluding the island airports, Glasgow International had the cheapest airport parking in the UK, costing £67.49 for a fortnight with Teesside only slightly more at £70.

Generally, meet & greet parking is the most expensive option, followed by parking outside the main terminal with park & ride options usually the cheapest.  But staying the night before at a local hotel can actually reduce the cost.  Liverpool costs £160.99 to park for the 2 week period we reviewed but stay the night before at the Crowne Plaza and you will only pay £85 for the acommodation and parking as well.

Pre-booking is essential

Just turning up at the airport without having arranged things in advance and you are looking at a serious bill, even for a couple of nights away.  However, even if you plan ahead, the difference in cost between airports can be significant.

Prices can change, depending on circumstances

It is important to note that dynamic pricing does appear to be a thing for a lot of airport car park operators.  Prices appear to go up and down depending on the time of year and also how far in advance you book.  However, booking far ahead of departure does not always seem to be cheaper so my advice would be to get a quote as soon as you book your trip and if it seems expensive, hold on and you may well get it cheaper nearer to departure.

Other Options

Of course travelling to the airport is another option.  Public transport services serve the majority of UK airports (although not necessarily timed to serve early morning departures or late arrivals) or you could take a taxi.  If you do get dropped off by a friend, be sure to check out our post on airport drop-off charges first.
