British Airways Club Changes for 2027: Status Thresholds, Tier Points and Avios Earning on Holidays

British Airways has announced another round of changes to its loyalty programme, with higher Tier Point thresholds for Silver and Gold status and reductions in the extra Tier Points awarded on premium long-haul flights.

The changes take effect from April 2027, although the date you book your flights will determine whether the new extra Tier Point rates apply.

There is some better news for most members booking British Airways Holidays, with a simpler system for earning Avios being introduced from November 2026.

Following the recent announcements about new A380 cabins and upcoming lounge refurbishments, these latest changes focus on the British Airways Club loyalty programme itself.

We’ve updated our detailed guides in the BA Club Hub, but in this article we’ll explain the three main changes, who will be affected and what they could mean for earning or retaining British Airways status in 2027/28.

Flying Blue Experiences: VIP Events Using Miles

Fancy watching France play in the Six Nations from a VIP box, or enjoying a concert by a major international artist with food, drinks and hospitality included?

Flying Blue miles aren’t just for booking flights. Since January 2026, members of the Air France-KLM loyalty programme have also been able to redeem their miles for exclusive experiences at two of Paris’s biggest entertainment venues – the Accor Arena and Stade de France.

These aren’t ordinary event tickets. Flying Blue Experiences include access to a private VIP box, premium seating, food, drinks and other hospitality benefits, with tickets available for everything from international rugby matches to concerts by some of the world’s biggest artists.

But with redemptions costing anywhere from 40,000 to 120,000 Flying Blue miles per person, are you actually getting good value compared with using those miles for flights?

We investigated the events available, what’s included in the hospitality packages and how much value you can expect from your miles.

Best Sites to Search for Avios Reward Flights

Finding Avios reward flights can be frustrating. You might be flexible on dates, willing to fly to several different destinations or simply looking for the elusive two Business Class seats – but repeatedly searching individual dates on airline websites can quickly become a thankless task.

Fortunately, there are several websites that allow you to search reward availability across a much wider range of dates, with some also offering useful features such as availability alerts, multiple-destination searches and the ability to see how many reward seats are available.

We tested the main free and paid options to see how they compare, looking at which airlines they cover, the information they show, how easy they are to use and whether they can help with things such as British Airways American Express Companion Vouchers.

There isn’t one search tool that is best at everything. Avios’ own new Reward Flight Finder is our favourite free option for straightforward BA, Iberia and Aer Lingus searches, while other tools are better if you want alerts, connecting flights or a wider selection of OneWorld airlines.

Here’s what we found.

What Can You Spend Avios On Apart From Flights?

For many Avios collectors, the ultimate goal is to use their points for Business Class flights or to book trips when cash fares are particularly expensive.

But not everyone wants to use their Avios for flights. You might have more points than you can realistically spend, not have enough for the reward flight you want, or simply prefer to turn them into something useful today rather than save them for a future trip.

Fortunately, flights are far from the only option. Avios can be used towards hotels, car hire, wine, shopping, Eurotunnel LeShuttle and even a meal at PizzaExpress – or converted into Nectar points to spend at places such as Sainsbury’s and Argos.

But these redemptions don’t all offer the same value.

We researched the main ways of spending Avios without flying, calculated how much value you get for each point and compared prices elsewhere to see whether you are actually getting a good deal.

Vueling Club: Earning and Spending Avios

Vueling is unusual among European low-cost airlines because it has its own frequent flyer programme – and it uses Avios.

Vueling Club allows regular passengers to earn Avios and Tier Points when flying, with higher status levels offering benefits including priority boarding, Fast Track security, free seat selection and additional cabin baggage.

But there is another reason Avios collectors should understand Vueling. Even if you rarely fly with the airline, you can use Avios collected with British Airways and other programmes to book Vueling flights – either directly through Vueling or, more interestingly, through Iberia Club.

The two redemption methods work very differently and can offer dramatically different value, especially if you are travelling with luggage.

Our guide looks at how Vueling Club works, how to earn Avios and status, and the different ways you can use Avios to book Vueling flights.

HSBC Premier Reward Points: What Are They Worth & How to Use Them?

If you have an HSBC Premier Credit Card, your everyday spending earns HSBC Premier Reward Points which can be converted into airline miles, hotel points, shopping vouchers or charity donations.

Like American Express Membership Rewards, the advantage is flexibility. Instead of earning directly into one airline programme, you can keep your points with HSBC until you decide how you want to use them – and HSBC occasionally offers transfer bonuses which can make converting them into airline miles considerably more attractive.

But how much are HSBC Reward Points actually worth?

We’ve investigated the different ways of spending them, looked at which airline and hotel transfers offer the best value, and compared the earning rates of HSBC’s two Premier credit cards with that of American Express Membership Rewards.

British Airways Household Account: How to Pool Avios

A British Airways Club Household Account enables up to seven people to pool their miles for the purposes of booking reward flights. In addition, being part of a household account is the only way that under 18s can earn Avios on their flights.

As a result, being part of a Household Account enables members of the group to book flights that they otherwise would not individually have enough points for and also means that collectors can also get additional value from the Avios collected by other family members who are under 18 or are infrequent travellers.

However, there are a few restrictions to be aware of, especially if you regularly use your Avios to book flights for many different people. Our guide explains how British Airways Club Household Accounts work, the key benefits and the things to be aware of.

Flying Blue Family: How to Pool & Transfer Miles

Flying Blue, the frequent flyer programme of Air France and KLM, allows families to combine their miles, potentially turning several small mileage balances into enough miles to book a reward flight.

A Flying Blue Family account can contain up to eight people – a maximum of two adults and six children. Everyone continues earning miles in their own Flying Blue account, but the designated Family Leader can transfer miles from the other members into their account, free of charge.

This can be particularly useful when some family members fly infrequently, miles are approaching expiry or you’re just short of the miles needed for a reward flight.

However, there are some important restrictions. Transfers are one-way, the Family Leader cannot be changed and, once transferred, the miles effectively belong to the leader. In this guide, we’ll explain how Flying Blue Family works, when it’s useful and the potential pitfalls to consider.

Avis Preferred: Benefits, Status Levels & How to Get President’s Club

Avis Preferred is the free loyalty programme from Avis, offering regular customers discounts, faster car collection, upgrades and other benefits.

There are three membership levels – Avis Preferred, Preferred Plus and President’s Club – but you don’t necessarily need to rent frequently to get top-tier status. American Express Platinum and selected World Elite Mastercard holders can qualify for President’s Club, while Avis also offers status matches from competing car-hire programmes.

Avis is also particularly interesting for Avios collectors, with several different ways to earn Avios on rentals.

We’ve looked at how Avis Preferred works, what the different status levels offer and, importantly, whether its advertised discounts actually produce the cheapest rental price.
