Uber Avios Changes: Winners and Losers Explained

At MaxYourTrip, we haven’t yet covered Avios earning on Uber but as changes to how points are awarded have just been announced, we thought it would be a good opportunity to do a short report.  The changes are good news for travellers using airport transfers and those who pre-book their journeys but less favourable for most other users.

What is Happening?

To summarise, the earning rate has been removed on virtually all UberX bookings (apart from airport runs) plus coach bookings, Uber Boat and Lime 2-wheels.

However, higher earning rates have been introduced on Uber Reserve (bookings made over 30 minutes in advance), trips to/from airports and bookings on Uber’s premium ride options.

Uber Eats earning is unchanged, and customers can still choose to credit their Avios to either the British Airways Club or the Aer Lingus Aer Club.

Currently, and up to 14 June 2026:

  • 1 Avios per eligible £/€ spent on Uber trips in the UK and the Republic of Ireland
  • 1 Avios per eligible £ spent on Trains & coaches, Uber Boat, and Lime 2-wheels in the UK only
  • 1 Avios per £/€ spent on Uber Eats orders (excluding groceries) over £25/€25 the UK and the Republic of Ireland

Effective from 15 June 2026:

  • 3 Avios per eligible £/€ spent on Uber Reserve in the UK and the Republic of Ireland
  • 2 Avios per eligible £/€ spent on Uber trips to/from an Airport
  • 2 Avios per eligible £/€ spent on Uber premium ride options in the UK and the Republic of Ireland
  • 2 Avios per eligible £ spent on Train Trips trips in the UK
  • 1 Avios per £/€ spent on Uber Eats orders (excluding groceries) over £25/€25 the UK and the Republic of Ireland

Winners & Losers

Winners

  • Uber reserve users
  • Airport passengers
  • Users of Ubers premium services
  • Frequent train travellers

Losers:

  • UberX users
  • Coach travellers
  • Lime users
  • Uber Boat users

Neutral:

  • People who only collect Avios on Uber Eats

How to link your Avios & Uber accounts (if you have not yet done so)

  1. You must be a member of either the British Airways Club or the Aer Lingus Aer Club
  2. Open the Uber app, go to account, then settings and scroll down to Rewards
  3. Select your preferred rewards programme and follow the instructions to Link your accounts

Other points

  • For clarity, Uber say that UberX and Taxi rides will collect Avios only if they are booked via Uber Reserve or are taken to or from an Airport.
  • Premium services are defined in the UK as: Uber XL, Uber Exec, Uber Lux, Uber Comfort, Uber XXL and Black Cab.  In ROI, Premium services are: Taxi Max, Taxi XL and Uber Black
  • Qualifying spend is the price before promotions or discounts are applied, it excludes tips and any additional fees such as cleaning fees
  • Uber’s wording is not entirely clear regarding airport journeys outside the UK and Republic of Ireland but I think it is safe to assume that only UK&ROI airport journeys will count.

Our Take

Going forwards, it may now make sense to pre-book via Uber Reserve rather than waiting until the last minute for your car, although may be best to sense check the pricing as in my experience, pre-booked fares can often be a lot more expensive than booking just before you want to travel.

It should still be noted that a £50 transfer booked via Uber Reserve would now earn 150 Avios instead of 50 while a £60 airport taxi will now earn 120 Avios, double the amount before.

In any event, if you have not linked your British Airways Club or Aer Lingus Aer Club accounts to Uber, you should do so now and potentially earn a few extra Avios on your rides and takeaway deliveries. If you are seeking to further boost your balance, see our guide on over 90 ways to earn Avios.
