Best F1 Races to Visit in 2027: A Travel Guide for UK Fans

Which is the Best Formula 1 Race to Visit?

The 2027 Formula 1 calendar has been announced, with 24 races across 22 countries – including the return of Portugal and Türkiye.  The number of rounds with sprint races has also been increased to 10 races.

For British and Irish F1 fans thinking about attending a race next year, Silverstone is the obvious choice. But should it be?

With the British Grand Prix among the more expensive races on the calendar, relatively cheap flights to much of Europe and several circuits easily accessible from major cities, travelling overseas to watch Formula 1 can sometimes offer a better trip – and potentially better value – than staying at home.

I’ve attended Grands Prix at Silverstone, Monza, the Nürburgring and Singapore, as well as making several trips to the Le Mans 24 Hours. In this guide, I’ve compared the most practical European races for UK and Irish fans, looking at ticket prices, flights, accommodation and how easy each circuit is to reach.

A note on prices: At the time of publication, 2027 tickets and flights aren’t yet available for every race. We’ve therefore shown the cheapest comparable three-day admission price from 2026 where available. These should be treated as a guide to relative costs rather than the price you’ll necessarily pay in 2027.

🇲🇨 Monaco Grand Prix, Monte Carlo

4-6 June 2027

Monaco harbour
  • Pros: Glamour, history, style
  • Cons: Tight street circuit leads to restricted viewing, Monaco can be a processional race, expensive grandstand tickets
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $293* (Rocher) – approx £217
  • Nearest airport: Nice NCE (19 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • British Airways: London City, London Heathrow
    • Easyjet: Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester, Newcastle  (more destinations likely to be added)
    • Ryanair: Dublin, London Stansted
    • Wizz Air: London Luton

With no actual airport in Monaco (or realistically priced accommodation in the principality over the Grand Prix weekend), Nice is the local airport.  Depending on budget, stay in Nice itself or near a railway station along the coast between Cannes and Cap d’Ail and take the train to the circuit in the morning.  Alternatively, stay on the other side of Monaco, on the coast towards the Italian border at Ventimiglia.

There is a lot of accommodation in the area but book ahead as prices can be high on the Côte d’Azur during early June.

The train from Cannes to Monaco takes about an hour and it is around 22 minutes from Nice-Ville station.  Alternatively there is a bus service to Monaco from Nice but it takes twice as long as the train and there are reports that it gets very busy.  Driving to the circuit is a no-no but if money is less of an issue, there are several companies offering seven-minute helicopter transfers between Nice airport to Monaco Heliport.

If you are planning on flying back home on the Sunday evening, just make sure you leave enough time to get back to Nice airport (use Nice-St Augustin station and walk to the airport). There are numerous stories of people waiting over two hours at Monaco station to board the train after the race so unless your flight leaves after 9:30pm, perhaps think about staying an extra night and going home on the Monday.

🇵🇹 Portuguese Grand Prix, Portimão

18-20 June 2027

  • Pros: Faro is one of the best connected airports in Europe, Portimao is regarded as one of the top circuits by many drivers
  • Cons: History of processional races in other motorsport series, has had a lot of traffic access issues in the past
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: not held
  • Nearest airport: Faro FAO (49 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • British Airways: London Gatwick, London Heathrow
    • Easyjet: Belfast International, Birmingham, Glasgow, Liverpool, London Luton, London Gatwick, London Southend, Manchester, Newcastle
    • Jet2: Belfast International, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle
    • Ryanair: Birmingham, Dublin, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Kerry, London Stansted, Manchester, Shannon, (more destinations likely to be added)

Faro is the closest airport to Portimao and handles over 10 million passengers a year.   Connections to the UK and Ireland are extensive and the sheer level of competition on some routes means that flight prices can be pretty reasonable.

The town of Portimao is on the Algarve coast, around an hours drive from Faro airport and 35 minutes from both Albufeira and Lagos.  The Algarve of course, is a big area for tourism so there is absolutely no shortage of accomodation in the area.

The circuit is actually around 15 miles north of Portimao and there is no railway or regular bus service.  Whilst the local transport details for the F1 have not yet been released, the experience of fans visiting for the MotoGP series is that shuttle buses run to the circuit from the towns of Portimao and Lagos, and it would be reasonable to expect the same for the Grand Prix.

If you are travelling from further afield, it is probably best to either hire a rental car or take a bus to Portimao and then get the shuttle or Uber to the circuit.  Either way, allow additional time to factor in the expected heavy traffic congestion on the tight access roads.

🇦🇹 Austrian Grand Prix, Spielberg

9-11 July 2027

  • Pros: Magnificent setting
  • Cons: Limited accommodation near the circuit apart from camping, nearby airports are poorly served from the UK & Ireland
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $184* (GA) – approx £136
  • Nearest airport: Graz GRZ (55 miles drive)
    • British Airways: London Gatwick
  • Alternative airport 1: Klagenfurt KLU (95 miles by car)
    • NO flights at present but expect Ryanair to run a service to Stansted
  • Alternative airport 2:  Vienna VIE (125 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • Austrian: London Heathrow
    • British Airways: London Heathrow
    • Ryanair: Dublin, London Stansted, (more destinations likely to be added)

Spielberg is located in the middle of the Styrian Mountains and offers wonderful alpine scenes as well as a challenging circuit. If you are looking to stay close by, hiring a car at the airport and camping is your most realistic option.

If you are staying further away and want to drive to the circuit each day, parking is apparently free.

For those using public transport, you can take the train to Knittelfeld and then a free shuttle bus to the circuit. Trains from Vienna Central Station take 2 hours 40 minutes (1 change) but depending on where you fly into, look for accommodation between Klagenfurt and Knittelfeld, or Bruck/Mur and Knittelfeld, so you can take a direct train from your digs to the circuit.

🇬🇧 British Grand Prix, Silverstone

2-4 July 2027

  • Pros: Convenient location for those living in Britain, historic circuit
  • Cons: Price of tickets, cost of parking, sheer number of spectators
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $431* (GA) – approx £319
  • Nearest airport: Birmingham International BHX (52 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Belfast City, Dublin
    • Easyjet: Belfast International, City of Derry, Edinburgh,
    • Glasgow & Jersey
    • Ryanair: Dublin

If you live in Britain, it is probably easiest to drive to Silverstone. It is extremely popular and was the best attended Grand Prix ever in 2026, although there was a lot of criticism of the ticket prices and parking charges.

If you live further afield and flying is your only realistic option, my recommendation would be to fly to Birmingham, stay in either Milton Keynes, Northampton, Banbury or Oxford, and then get a bus to the circuit. If you fly into a London airport, you will not be able to get a direct train anywhere near Silverstone without going into central London.

There are extensive camping options around the circuit to suit a wide variety of groups so do your research before committing to a site.

Bus transfer services are provided from the following railway stations: Milton Keynes Central (50 minutes), Northampton (40 minutes), Banbury (50 minutes), Coventry (80 mins) and Oxford Parkway (45 minutes). For more info click here.

Alternatively in 2026, National Express provided a direct bus service to the circuit on both Saturday & Sunday from the following cities: Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, London, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Swindon, Winchester & Wolverhampton. See here for details.

🇧🇪 Belgian Grand Prix, Spa-Francorchamps

23-25 July 2027

Spa Francorchamps
  • Pros: Eau Rouge is still one of the most challenging corners on the calendar, drivable from the Channel ports, Beer/Waffles/Fries/Chocolate
  • Cons: Weather notoriously changeable
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $240* (Bronze) – approx £178
  • Nearest airport: Liege LGG (39 miles by car)
    • No flights to the UK or Ireland
  • Alternative airport 1: Brussels Zeventem BRU (84 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • British Airways: London Heathrow
    • Brussels Airlines: Edinburgh, Manchester, London Heathrow
    • Ryanair: Dublin
  • Alternative airport 2: Brussels Charleroi CRL (86 miles by car)
    • Ryanair: Manchester, Edinburgh (potentially Cork, Dublin & Newcastle but not on sale at present)
  • Alternative airport 3: Cologne-Bonn CGN (86 miles by car)
    • Eurowings: Edinburgh, London Gatwick
    • Ryanair: London Stansted, Manchester (also potentially Dublin & Knock but not on sale at present)

Spa is located 39 miles from Liege airport but as it has no flights to the UK, the main transport choices are to Zeventem, Charleroi and Cologne-Bonn airports, or the Eurostar to Brussels-Midi.

Alternatively the circuit is just over 200 miles away from both Dunkirk and Calais so taking the car on the ferry or through the Eurotunnel is a strong option, particularly if you are travelling in a larger group or live in the south of England.

If you are travelling by car and want to stay close to the circuit, look for accomodation in Spa, Malmedy or Stavelot.  There are numerous car parks at the circuit, pick the one that is most convenient for where you will be watching the race, but like at most F1 events, there can be severe traffic congestion issues – especially after the race.  Alternatively, avoid the F1 price premium by staying in Liege and taking the shuttle bus.

Brussels is certainly not short of hotels, including some very pricey ones, but you have a wide selection to choose from and it it relatively far away from the circuit for the F1 to impact prices too much.

If you are driving, camping is another popular option and many sites are within walking distance of the circuit.  Both lively and family orientated campsites are available, with some sites also providing pre-pitched tents.

From Brussels-Midi station take a train to Verviers-Central and then a shuttle bus to the circuit, a combined trip of over two hours each way.   Alternatively, you can take the City Shuttle coach to the race from a variety of cities including Brussels, Charleroi, Cologne, Liège and Namur.

🇭🇺 Hungarian Grand Prix, Hungaroring

30 July-1 August 2027

  • Pros: Close to Budapest, good value tickets
  • Cons: Heat & dust can be a problem for spectators
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $187* (GA) – approx £139
  • Nearest airport: Budapest BUD (22 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • British Airways: London Heathrow
    • Easyjet: London Gatwick, London Southend,
    • Jet2: Birmingham, Leeds Bradford, Manchester
    • Ryanair: Dublin, Edinburgh, London Stansted, Manchester
    • Wizz Air: Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton

The easiest way to get to the Hungarian Grand Prix is to fly to Budapest, it is well served from the UK and there is an efficient airport bus service into the city. Some websites suggest saving money by flying to Vienna (150 miles away) and then either driving or taking the train, although the savings would have to be substantial for me to consider doing this.

Accommodation options are plentiful in Budapest and prices are generally considered to be good value, even over a grand prix weekend. Combining your F1 trip with a visit to Buda Castle followed by a relaxing session at the Széchenyi Thermal Baths would make for a great weekend away.

The Hungaroring is 12 miles from central Budapest. You can take the train to Kerepes station and then take a free shuttle bus to the circuit (note that the return shuttle takes you to a different station – Gödöllő – where you can take a direct train back to Budapest-Keleti central station). Alternatively the City Shuttle minibus service runs between Heroes Square and the Hungaroring. If you are driving, parking at the circuit is free.

🇮🇹 Italian Grand Prix, Monza

3-5 September 2027

Monza 2024
  • Pros: Ease of access from Milan, cheap tickets, join the track invasion at the end of the race
  • Cons: Race is typically over in less than 75 minutes, food & drink queues are long
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $140* (GA) – approx £104
  • Nearest airport: Milan Linate LIN (14 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • British Airways: London City, London Heathrow
    • Easyjet: Birmingham, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, Manchester
    • ITA: London City
  • Alternative airport 1: Bergamo BGY (35 miles by car)
    • Ryanair: Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London Stansted, Manchester
  • Alternative airport 2: Milan Malpensa MXP (39 miles by car)
    • British Airways: London Heathrow
    • Easyjet: Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester
    • Ryanair: Dublin, Manchester, London Stansted
    • Wizz Air: Glasgow, London Luton

Linate is by far the closest airport to Milan with convenient rail access to the city centre. Malpensa is further out but has a better international route network, whilst Ryanair has an extensive operation at Bergamo, with regular buses into Milan city centre.

There is a huge variety of accommodation in Milan to suit all budgets so you can potentially combine your trip with a city break (or as we did, visit the San Siro to watch Inter Milan). Early September can be really hot in the city centre so air conditioning is strongly recommended.

The town of Monza is only 17 minutes on the train from central Milan using S7, S8, S9 and S11 lines – served by many stations so see which one is closest to your accommodation – and from there you can take a shuttle bus to the circuit.  I felt that everything was well organised although, depending on your vantage point, it can be a bit of a walk from the bus to the track.

🇪🇸 Spanish Grand Prix, Madring

10-12 September 2027

  • Pros: Opportunity to combine with a city break, circuit located near the main airport
  • Cons: Unknown at present
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: $325 (GA) – approx £241
  • Nearest airport: Madrid Barajas MAD (5 miles by car)
    • Aer Lingus: Dublin
    • Air Europa: London Gatwick
    • British Airways: London Heathrow
    • Easyjet: Bristol, Edinburgh, London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester
    • Iberia: Dublin, London Gatwick, London Heathrow
    • Ryanair: Birmingham, Dublin, London Stansted, Manchester

2027 will be Formula 1’s second visit to the Madring, a street circuit located half way between central Madrid and the airport. This gives a fantastic opportunity to visit the Spanish capital and combine a city break with a trip to watch the F1.

Madrid is one of the better value for money European capitals when it comes to accommodation costs so there should be something for most budgets. The city is a great place to visit with a wide variety of museums, art galleries and other attractions.

The organisers claim that 90% of fans will get to the circuit on public transport. It can be accessed from central Madrid by using the metro line 8 (Feria De Madrid station) or by the C1 railway line (Valdebebas station). Alternatively there is a comprehensive bus service that will be enhanced over the grand prix weekend plus the proximity to the centre of Madrid means that taxis will also be an option, especially if you are not staying in the immediate city centre.

Depending on flight times, it is perfectly realistic to expect to be able to watch the grand prix, go straight to the airport and then fly back home on Sunday evening. However, you will need to think about where to store your luggage on the day of the race.

🇹🇷 Turkish Grand Prix, Istanbul Park

1-3 October 2027

  • Pros: Affordable accommodation in the city, historically not the best attended race so potentially less congested for spectators, race tickets likely to be good value for money
  • Cons: Track is relatively far away from the city centre with poor transport options
  • 3 day general admission price in 2026: not held (previous races have been very competitively priced)
  • Nearest airport: Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen SAW (7 miles by car))
    • Pegasus:
  • Alternaive Airport: Istanbul IST (49 miles drive)
    • British Airways: London Heathrow
    • Turkish Airlines: Birmingham, Dublin, Glasgow, London Gatwick,  London Heathrow, London Stansted, Manchester
    • Wizz Air: London Luton

If you are going to Istanbul to watch the Formula 1, definitely also consider flying to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW) as this airport is on the Asian side of the city and far nearer the circuit than the new, main Istanbul airport IST that opened in 2018. However, far fewer airlines fly to SAW and staying near the circuit means being further away from the attractions of Istanbul.

From Istanbul IST airport, if you are staying in the Taksim area, avoid the notorious traffic by taking the M11 metro line to Gayrettepe and then transfer to the M2 line to Taksim. If you are staying around Sultanahmet, it is probably best to either take a taxi or get the direct HVIST-11 bus.

From Sabiha Gökçen SAW airport to Taksim, the Havabus leaves every half an hour and takes around 90 minutes. If you are going to Sultanahmet the best option is to take the M4 metro line to Ayrılık Çeşmesi station and then change to the B1 line to the Sirkeci station. From here you can walk or take the T1 tram to Sultanahmet Square.

Accommodation in Istanbul is extremely good value for money and offers everything from budget hostels to upmarket hotels. If you are combining your F1 trip with a city break, I would recommend staying in Taksim, it is not so convenient for the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia or Basilica Cistern but you are on the Eastern side of the Golden Horn and in a slightly better place to get to the circuit from central Istanbul.

The Istanbul Park circuit is 30 miles from the city centre and has no railway station in the immediate area, however you can take either the Marmaray railway line or the M4 metro line to Pendik station and then get on a local bus. Based on what has happened in previous Istanbul F1 races, it is expected that there will be direct bus services from central Istanbul to the circuit, and this will probably be the best option for visitors.

Having visited Istanbul on many occasions and experienced the standard of driving over there, I would strongly advise against hiring a car!

Flyaway Races

Singapore F1

For the flyaway (ie long-haul) races, there are a lot of different options. Combining one of the four North American races with a road trip could be an interesting option, and cities such as Sao Paulo or Mexico City could be great stop offs as part of a wider visit to the region.

Baku looks like a spectacular city to visit but has historically been one of the more difficult places to visit from the UK but Azerbaijan Airlines now offer direct services to the city from both Heathrow and Gatwick. Alternatively, you can connect in Frankfurt (Lufthansa) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines/Pegasus).

I have visited Singapore on a couple of occasions, it is a great place to visit and a convenient stop-over when connecting to other places in Asia or to Australia or New Zealand. The spectacular Formula 1 race is held at night but if you do go, my recommendation is to make sure you keep hydrated as it is very hot when you are outside for all that time!

I really enjoyed my visits to Qatar and the UAE and an F1 themed break in the Gulf would be a great experience particularly if you combine the race with a few days exploring the destination.

Finally, Australia, China and Japan are all a fairly long way away from home, and you have to be a hardcore F1 fan to visit solely for the Grand Prix. However, all 3 countries have a lot of other attractions and if you are planning on visiting one of them, maybe consider if you can squeeze a race into your schedule.

🏁 Our pick for a first overseas F1 trip: Monza

Which Formula 1 Race Should I Choose?

Of course, there isn’t a single “best” Formula 1 Grand Prix—it depends on the type of trip you’re looking for.

If you’re attending your first overseas race, Monza and Budapest are hard to beat thanks to their relatively inexpensive tickets, excellent flight options and the opportunity to combine the weekend with a memorable city break. If money is no object, few sporting events can match the glamour of Monaco, while Austria offers arguably the most spectacular scenery on the calendar.

Before booking, don’t just compare ticket prices. Flights, accommodation, local transport and food can make a huge difference to the overall cost of a Formula 1 weekend. Booking flights and hotels early is usually the best way to keep costs down, especially for the more popular races.

One final tip is to consider using Avios for your flights. British Airways, Iberia and several other airlines allow you to book reward flights that can usually be cancelled for a modest fee if your plans change. That flexibility can be particularly valuable when race calendars, ticket sales or personal plans are still uncertain.  In addition, using Avios can offer outsized value when cash prices are high.

Formula 1 has become one of the world’s biggest sporting spectacles. Whether you choose the history of Monza, the atmosphere of Budapest, the glamour of Monaco or somewhere a little different, combining a Grand Prix with a city break can make for an unforgettable trip.
