Loganair Loyalty Guide: Earning and Spending Avios

Loganair Loyalty, it may not surprise you to learn, is the loyalty programme for Loganair. Like British Airways and other airlines, Loganair uses Avios points as it’s loyalty currency

Unlike most airline loyalty schemes, Loganair Loyalty is refreshingly simple. Flights earn a fixed number of Avios based on the ticket type, while almost every reward flight costs the same 6,500 Avios each way, regardless of the route.

Loganair Overview

Loganiair is decent sized operation.  In 2025, the airline flew over 51,000 flights and carried 1.3m passengers. The company has a fleet of 37 aircraft – mainly ATR 42s, ATR 72s and Embraer ERJ-145s

Loganair is primarily a UK domestic carrier, with a strong presence in their homeland of Scotland although since the demise of FlyBe, it has broadened it’s route network. It currently serves 28 UK airports plus flights to Jersey, Dublin, Donegal, Bergen and Esbjerg.  In addition, Paris and Bordeaux are also served from Jersey.

The company operates a couple of interesting routes.

  • The shortest scheduled airline route in the world –  the 90 second/1.7 mile flight from Westray to Papa Westray in the Orkneys.
  • The twice daily Glasgow to Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, which offers a unique beach runway landing – the timetable for this flight is set according to the local tide times.

Loganair is not a low cost airline.

Loganair operates routes that have limited demand, often from less price conscious business customers, and prices can reflect this.  However, I have personally found that it can be worth paying the additional premium to fly with Loganair on routes such as Newcastle-Southampton, in order to fly there-and-back in a day and avoid two 5 hour train journeys plus an overnight stay.

Loganair Loyalty

What is Loganair Loyalty?

In a world of complicated airline reward schemes, Loganair Loyalty is a very simple programme.  Avios points are earned for flying and these can be redeemed for future Loganair flights, or used elsewhere in the Avios ecosystem.

Can I Earn Avios on Loganair?

Yes, the number of Avios awarded is the same for all routes, and is based on the type of ticket booked

How Many Points Do I Need for a Reward Flight?

Redemptions are a fixed amount of 6,500 Avios each way, regardless of the route

Any exceptions?

The only exception is flights on the Orkney Inter-Isle network (from Kirkwall to Eday, North Ronaldsay, Papa Westray, Sanday, Westray & Stronsay), on which Loganair does not allow passengers to collect or redeem Avios.

A return flight will earn the relevant amount of Avios in each direction.  If your flight on Loganair involves a connection (such as Birmingham to Kirkwall, connecting at Aberdeen), you will earn avios for each flight segment flown, as long as they are all operated by Loganair.

Moving Avios between different Airline Programmes

The great thing about having a shared loyalty currency is that you can move Avios between different airline programmes.  This means that if you have no likely need to redeem for a Loganair flight, you can move the Avios earned with Loganair to British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Qatar Airways or Finnair.  Alternatively, if you do not have enough Avios in your Loganair account for a redemption flight, you can move Avios across from one of the other schemes to help fund your Loganair trip.

In order to facilitate a transfer between accounts, these must be linked on the avios website.  It is important to use exactly the same name and email address on both accounts otherwise the link will not work and you will be unable to transfer points across.

Redeeming Avios on Loganair

Redemption flights cost 6,500 Avios each way, plus taxes & fees.  This gets you the equivalent of a “Fly” ticket.  If you are connecting, you pay 6,500 Avios for each flight segment.

We Analysed 10 Loganair Reward Flights

We researched 10 different Loganair routes, checking the Avios availability and cash prices of flights departing around 4 weeks ahead.

  • Average redemption value: 1.2p per Avios
  • Best value: 2.3p
  • Break-even point: around £114

Availability

Overall availability was good.  Of the 10 routes we researched, 7 had availability for an Avios redemption on the first date we checked, 2 routes had availability on the second date tried and one route needed 3 attempts to find an available avios redemption.

However, my feeling was that we probably struck lucky with the dates we searched for Glasgow > Barra as there was hardly any other availability on other dates around that time.

Taxes

Whilst the cost is fixed at 6,500 avios for each flight, taxes vary by route (from £20.71 to £61.05) but averaged £48.88 each way.

Value of your Avios

The value of an Avios point is generally accepted to be around 1p each (although this assessment depends hugely on your view of what you would be prepared for a high demand or business class flight).  What is clearer is that Avios have a floor value of 0.5p each – this is the value you can get in Sainsbury’s and Argos after converting Avios to Nectar points.

Comparing the cost of an avios redemption to the cash price on the day allows for an assessment of the value per Avios you would get by booking a redemption on Loganair.  Across the 10 flights researched, the value of using Avios varied from 0.5p each on Isle of Man > Liverpool to 2.3p on Dundee > Sumburgh, with an overall value of 1.2p each.

Are reward flights on Loganair a good use of Avios?

Looking at the table below, it appears that using Avios is very attractive on more expensive flights, often those to remote islands.  Our analysis suggests that (assuming you value Avios at 1p each), if the Loganair flight you are looking at costs more than £114, you should consider using Avios.  However, if your flight costs less than £114, you should probably look to pay cash.

Is Loganair Loyalty Worth It?

Loganair Loyalty won’t appeal to every traveller, but even for those who occasionally fly the airline it offers one of the simplest reward schemes in aviation. Fixed earning rates and fixed-price reward flights make it easy to understand, while the ability to transfer Avios between Loganair and other Avios programmes gives members valuable flexibility.

Our analysis suggests that reward flights offer the best value on more expensive routes, particularly services to Scotland’s islands and other regional destinations where cash fares can be relatively high. Conversely, on cheaper routes you’re usually better off paying cash and saving your Avios for another day.

If you already collect Avios with British Airways Club or one of the other Avios issuing airlines, there’s little reason not to join Loganair Loyalty before your next flight. It’s free to join and every flight brings you a little closer to your next reward.
