Business Class Light Fares: Are the Extras Worth Paying For?

Business Class used to be relatively simple. Pay the premium fare and you could expect lounge access, seat selection, generous luggage allowances, flexibility and plenty of frequent-flyer miles alongside the better seat and onboard service.

That is no longer always the case.

A growing number of airlines now sell cheaper, unbundled Business Class fares – often called Business Light – which give you the same seat, food and onboard experience but remove some of the benefits traditionally associated with flying Business Class.

I recently faced exactly this decision when booking Etihad Business Class from Heathrow to Phuket. The cheapest Value fare gave me the same Business Class seat and onboard experience, but paying an additional £153 each way for Comfort would add benefits including lounge access, seat selection, extra luggage, greater flexibility, more miles, Wi-Fi and Etihad Chauffeur.
At first I dismissed the upgrade. But was I actually saving £153, or would buying the missing benefits separately end up costing me more?

I went back through each benefit, put a value on what I would actually use and worked out whether I had made the right decision.

How to Get 25% Off Northern Train Tickets

Northern operates hundreds of local and regional train services across the North of England – and there is a way to save 25% on some of its cheapest Advance tickets.

The discount is available through the Discounts for Carers and Discounts for Teachers websites and you don’t currently need to provide proof that you are a carer or teacher to sign up.

There are some catches. The 25% saving only applies to Northern Advance Single tickets, doesn’t work with a Railcard and, as we discovered when testing different journeys, isn’t available on every route combination.

However, with fares such as York to Blackpool for just £10.55 each way, there are some very good deals available. Here’s how the discount works, how to get a code and a few tricks that can help when the fare you want doesn’t initially appear.

Vueling Club: Earning and Spending Avios

Vueling is unusual among European low-cost airlines because it has its own frequent flyer programme – and it uses Avios.

Vueling Club allows regular passengers to earn Avios and Tier Points when flying, with higher status levels offering benefits including priority boarding, Fast Track security, free seat selection and additional cabin baggage.

But there is another reason Avios collectors should understand Vueling. Even if you rarely fly with the airline, you can use Avios collected with British Airways and other programmes to book Vueling flights – either directly through Vueling or, more interestingly, through Iberia Club.

The two redemption methods work very differently and can offer dramatically different value, especially if you are travelling with luggage.

Our guide looks at how Vueling Club works, how to earn Avios and status, and the different ways you can use Avios to book Vueling flights.

Should I Buy an English Heritage Membership?

English Heritage looks after more than 400 historic sites across England, including Stonehenge, Dover Castle and large sections of Hadrian’s Wall. Annual membership starts at £44 and includes free entry for accompanying children.

But is English Heritage membership actually worth paying for?

Our research found that English Heritage membership typically pays for itself after around 3–5 visits. Young adults and students can break even after around three visits, while families can also get particularly good value because children can visit for free with adult members.

HSBC Premier Reward Points: What Are They Worth & How to Use Them?

If you have an HSBC Premier Credit Card, your everyday spending earns HSBC Premier Reward Points which can be converted into airline miles, hotel points, shopping vouchers or charity donations.

Like American Express Membership Rewards, the advantage is flexibility. Instead of earning directly into one airline programme, you can keep your points with HSBC until you decide how you want to use them – and HSBC occasionally offers transfer bonuses which can make converting them into airline miles considerably more attractive.

But how much are HSBC Reward Points actually worth?

We’ve investigated the different ways of spending them, looked at which airline and hotel transfers offer the best value, and compared the earning rates of HSBC’s two Premier credit cards with that of American Express Membership Rewards.

Is Priority Pass Worth It? UK Review & Price Analysis

Priority Pass came out on top in our recent comparison of UK airport lounge membership schemes, thanks to its extensive lounge network, flexible membership options and additional airport dining benefits. But how does it stack up against simply paying for lounge access when you travel?
We compared Priority Pass with the cost of paying directly for 38 UK airport lounges and found an average walk-up price of £40.51, or £35.52 when booked in advance through Holiday Extras.
Depending on how often you travel, Priority Pass can be considerably cheaper than buying lounge access individually – and its £18 airport dining credit adds another potentially useful benefit.
We looked at the numbers to work out who should consider Priority Pass, which membership makes sense and when you’re better off simply paying for lounge access as you go.

Miles+Points: Double-Dip with Air France KLM and Accor Hotels

Flying Blue – the frequent flyer programme of Air France KLM – and Accor Live Limitless (ALL) – the loyalty programme for Accor Hotels – have an interesting reciprocal offer that rewards travellers using both schemes.

This is in addition to the normal miles/points & status benefits earned as part of your stay.

So how does this work and is it worth joining?

Two people getting off a Heathrow Express Train

Heathrow Express vs Elizabeth Line vs Tube: Which Is Best?

There are three main rail options for travelling between Heathrow Airport and central London: the Heathrow Express, Elizabeth line and Piccadilly line on the London Underground.

However, the fastest is not necessarily the best option.

The Heathrow Express can get you from Heathrow to Paddington in just 15 minutes, but a standard ticket costs £26. The Elizabeth line takes slightly longer but serves several central London stations directly, while the Piccadilly line is considerably cheaper and may actually get you to your final destination faster if you’re heading somewhere such as South Kensington, Knightsbridge or Covent Garden.

In this guide, we compare price, journey time, frequency, luggage convenience and where each service takes you, to help you choose the best way to travel between Heathrow and London.

British Airways Household Account: How to Pool Avios

A British Airways Club Household Account enables up to seven people to pool their miles for the purposes of booking reward flights. In addition, being part of a household account is the only way that under 18s can earn Avios on their flights.

As a result, being part of a Household Account enables members of the group to book flights that they otherwise would not individually have enough points for and also means that collectors can also get additional value from the Avios collected by other family members who are under 18 or are infrequent travellers.

However, there are a few restrictions to be aware of, especially if you regularly use your Avios to book flights for many different people. Our guide explains how British Airways Club Household Accounts work, the key benefits and the things to be aware of.

Best F1 Races to Visit in 2027: A Travel Guide for UK Fans

The 2027 Formula 1 calendar has been announced, with 24 races across 22 countries – including the return of Portugal and Türkiye.  The number of rounds with sprint races has also been increased to 10 races.

For British and Irish F1 fans thinking about attending a race next year, Silverstone is the obvious choice. But should it be?

With the British Grand Prix among the more expensive races on the calendar, relatively cheap flights to much of Europe and several circuits easily accessible from major cities, travelling overseas to watch Formula 1 can sometimes offer a better trip – and potentially better value – than staying at home.
